A special-occasion orchestra comprising the youth big band “Want2Swing” from Assen, supplemented by young wind and brass musicians from the region. The program features lively music that was rehearsed during a workshop (April 18) led by renowned big band specialists.

The Bundeswehr Big Band from Germany guarantees top-notch musical quality, captivating performances, and the unmistakable sound of a modern big band. When the Big Band takes the stage, it delivers an energetic sound that brings all the elements of music together into an unforgettable experience. Every concert is a show full of surprises, emotion, and the joy of performing.

This swing band is in high demand internationally and has performed on nearly every continent. Think of places like New York, Oslo, Nairobi, Riyadh, Madrid, Cape Town, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, or Rio de Janeiro.

Vocalists

Sofiya Astapiuk and Bonita Niessen (Louw)

Sofiyais a jazz, pop, and soul singer, songwriter, and vocal coach based in Amsterdam. As a passionate performer and teacher, she graduated cum laude from the Prince Claus Conservatoire with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Vocal Performance and Teaching.
As the founder and frontwoman of her project MATOYA, Sofiya performs throughout Europe, where she combines her expressive voice with narrative lyrics and a unique, genre-defying sound. She also collaborates with various musical projects in Europe and has performed with the Polish National Orchestra at prestigious venues.
Bonita is a South African soul, blues, and pop singer who lives and works in Germany. She first gained prominence in the Netherlands and Germany through her appearance on Stefan Raab’s talent show SSDSGPS “Stefan sucht den Super-Grand-Prix-Star” in 2004, where she finished in second place.
The list of artists she has performed with is impressive, including Michael Bublé and Kool & The Gang. She has also appeared in various musicals and orchestral productions. These days, she is involved in blues and soul projects such as B.B. & The Blues Shacks and performs in the Tina Turner tribute show Simply Tina.
